ANGELS WHO ARE NOT

Brief the respite.
Are those angels in the night
distant faces blazing in the twilight?

From far heavens
stars spill and
scatter through the night.
It is said the brightest stars
have long since disappeared.

O but I see them shimmering in silent pools
in sweet relief.
from the evening.
I see the stars
no longer there.
Touching earth,
reflecting back
the color of the sky.
I, a time traveler,
shall not forget your name.
My invocation echoes
in the wind.

You have gone
lain down long ago.
But night’s mysteries are
You, the stars, and angels,
all who are not.
